I’ve been doing a lot of research on the best sub-$500 9mm carry pistol options for 2026 and wanted to share what I’ve found and hear from the community.
My top contenders are:
Glock 19 Gen 5 — The standard by which others are measured. Proven reliability, vast aftermarket, ubiquitous spare parts. Street price around $499-529 but you can often find them closer to $479 on sale.
S&W M&P Shield Plus — The upgrade to the original Shield that everyone wanted. 13+1 capacity in a slim package, excellent trigger for a striker-fired gun, usually around $399-429.
Ruger Security-9 — The budget king. Absolute reliability, great ergonomics, usually $279-319. If money is the primary concern this is your gun.
Springfield Hellcat Pro — 15+1 capacity in an incredibly slim package. Adaptive grip texture is fantastic. Around $479-499.
Taurus G3C — The underdog. $249-279, three safeties, 12+1 capacity. Taurus has dramatically improved quality control in the last few years.
What are you all carrying? Any hands-on experience with these in a defensive context?
